A user in Jaiku posed an interesting question. Why didn’t the live adaption of V for Vendetta garner as much praise as the anime adaptation of Akira? Here’s my response to that, to keep you from jumping through links
When you make a live adaptation, it’s expected that you’ll be as faithful to the source as possible. It’s basically transposing what you get in the original medium into something that could happen in real life. Difference is Akira was an anime adaptation, and traditionally, manga to anime adaptations have always had a bit of leeway in that area…now, the live action Akira that’s scheduled…will probably get as bad a receiving as V, if they don’t nail Tetsuo just right

CraveOnline Acquires MyAnimeList - World’s Largest Anime & Manga Social Networking Site: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance
Founded in 2006, MyAnimeList was created to give users an immediate and easy way of cataloging their anime or manga collection. The site allows users to create a profile, connect with other enthusiasts and provide detailed information on anime or manga characters, plot line and more. The catalog of over 4.4 million anime and 775,000 manga user based entries on the site make MyAnimeList the largest of its kind online.
Also, now that they’ve gained some notoriety, perhaps the Wikipedia article can stay up longer without fear of deletion. I’ve been a member of MAL since July 2007, and am looking forward to whatever new things this buyout might bring. With the possible addition of new features to MAL, and the impending releases of Anime Planet V3, we might see a push to see which website can get the biggest user numbers.

DreamWorks to make Ghost in 3-D - Entertainment News, Film News, Media - Variety
Dreamworks will be bringing the Ghost in The Shell series to the CG big screen soon. Steven Spielberg seems crazy about the idea, and Avi and Ari Arad have been tapped to produce it. If a horrible second season on TV and an even worse PS2 game didn’t kill interest in the series, a Spielberg-backed endeavor can do no harm….right?

Animation World Magazine
A long article about a new bill which could make artists lose their rights to old works by calling them “Orphaned”
